You firstly need to establish whether the existing floor has been constructed to cope with heavier materials such as terracotta tiles or stone. The days of having only laminate work surfaces to choose from are long gone and there is a myriad of materials and finishes available to you.

Laminate

Since the dawn of the modern kitchen there have been laminate counter tops and it can be found in a versatile mix of colours. The drawback is it can quickly get damaged and if you are creating designer kitchens you really need to invest in this element of the kitchen.

Slate and stone

This is an expensive option but well worth the cost. It will give bespoke kitchens a luxurious look and this classic look will survive all the upcoming fads and trends. These counter top are durable and can be crafted to suit your kitchen layout. On the downside you’ll need to make sure it’s sealed as stone and slate are porous and can stain.

Composite stone

It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of a home, so when creating expensive kitchen you need kitchen designers who can not only add beauty to your home but value too. Whether you are creating bespoke kitchens with only room for a breakfast bar or designing a huge kitchen space in a large open plan apartment this is the room which needs to marry up so many needs that only expert interior designers are up for the job.

Tips for designer kitchens

Bring new life and design to a kitchen by including an oval or round island. You can add to it a sink, oven or new kitchen space.

If you are confined by space ,consult with your cabinet makers to create some shallow cupboards mounted on the ceiling. Be sure to leave a gap if at least 120 cm between islands and units.

Utilise vaulted or coffered ceilings in order to vary the height in the kitchen. You can effectively create an illusion of space using this method.

Getting in the zone

Think about how you want to define the different areas of activity. You want to avoid guests clogging up your cooking area but you want them close enough so that you can still enjoy a glass of wine with them whilst creating your culinary delights.
