Choosing Kitchen Cabinets For Designer Kitchens
June 2009
_

When designing modern, quality kitchens the kitchen cabinets are pivotal to the overall design and look of contemporary kitchens.  The choice of cabinet can create either a modern or traditional look and feel, depending on the design you are going for.  They can help to create an illusion of space in a smaller kitchen, but poorly chosen cabinets can make a room look dingy and cramped.  Here are some tips for creating designer kitchens with well chosen kitchen cabinets:

1.    When choosing kitchen cabinets, don’t just get lost in the style and design.  Think primarily about how durable they are and whether they are easy to clean and maintain.  Employing cabinet makers may also be a good idea.

2.    Try out a variety of materials on kitchen cabinets to break up the monotony of just one block of colour or material.  You may do this subtly by choosing door handles that contrast with the doors.

3.    If you have used stainless steel on the surfaces, whether the cabinets, work surfaces or back splash, try to create warmth with other materials.

4.    In the same way you want to choose a variety of materials for your kitchen cabinets, think about mixing up materials on the work surfaces too.

5.    If the kitchen is a small space, work with a design that is uncluttered and simple.  This will create the illusion that your kitchen is more spacious.

6.    Make sure you choose paint and wallpaper specifically designed for designer kitchens.  It must be able to resist heat and grease.
