How to Choose a Kitchen Designer
September 2009
_

So you’ve finally decided to gut out your fifty-year-old kitchen and have it redesigned? This is a big step in the interior design of your home, and an exciting time as well. But how do you go about choosing kitchen designers? Here are some tips to get you started.

First, think about and decide what you want. There’s no point in hiring a kitchen designer if you have no clue what you want in your new kitchen. Look at interior design magazines for ideas. Watch some decorating and designing TV shows, or browse the Internet for your dream kitchen.

To choose the right designer, you can start by asking your friends or family to recommend one to you if they were pleased with the service they got. You can also look up companies in the telephone directory and online.

Before selecting a designer, be sure to do your research. Find out what kind of experience the designers have, and why they are qualified to do the job. Make sure you see some examples of their work—whether that’s photographs, show rooms, or kitchens in actual homes.

Set a budget. A brand new kitchen will probably cost you a pretty penny no matter who you go with, but remember to be realistic. If you don’t have the money for those extra luxury items, don’t ask for them. But do expect to pay high prices for quality.

Finally, choose interior designers you feel comfortable with and are happy to work with on a long term basis.

How to Decorate a Shabby Chic Kitchen
September 2009
_

Shabby chic style, with a primitive, old fashioned, or country look, is very popular these days. You can decorate any room your house in shabby chic style, but the kitchen is particularly suited to this style, and you won’t be disappointed with the results of your shabby chic interior design.

First, clean your kitchen from top to bottom. If you want to make any changes to the kitchen design, such as hiring cabinet makers for new cupboards, or putting in a new oven, do this before you start to decorate. If you need to hire cabinet makers or kitchen designers, you should do this well in advance.

Interior design should start with the basics. Think about your floors and walls. Are you happy with them as they are? Will they look good against  shabby chic decor?

Next, choose wall cabinets and shelves. Corner shelves and pigeon holes like old wood typeset drawers are particularly suited to the shabby chic style. You may also want to buy other items like towel racks and spice racks to fit your new theme.

Now you need to choose decorative items. Look for old fashioned looking items and antiques like old toys and dolls, coloured glass bottles, old tins, mismatched china, fancy spoons, embroidered handkerchiefs, and lace doilies.

Choose one or two main colours to focus on. These should complement the floor and walls. Choose curtains in one or both of your main colours. Disperse other coloured items amongst the main color items.

For ideas on how to arrange items and decorate, look at some interior design magazines, or vintage issues of women’s magazines.

Getting The Kitchen Mix Just Right
August 2009
_

It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of a home, so when creating expensive kitchen you need kitchen designers who can not only add beauty to your home but value too. Whether you are creating bespoke kitchens with only room for a breakfast bar or designing a huge kitchen space in a large open plan apartment this is the room which needs to marry up so many needs that only expert interior designers are up for the job.

Tips for designer kitchens

Bring new life and design to a kitchen by including an oval or round island. You can add to it a sink, oven or new kitchen space.

If you are confined by space ,consult with your cabinet makers to create some shallow cupboards mounted on the ceiling. Be sure to leave a gap if at least 120 cm between islands and units.

Utilise vaulted or coffered ceilings in order to vary the height in the kitchen. You can effectively create an illusion of space using this method.

Getting in the zone

Think about how you want to define the different areas of activity. You want to avoid guests clogging up your cooking area but you want them close enough so that you can still enjoy a glass of wine with them whilst creating your culinary delights. You can use kitchen islands to split up the kitchen space and one with a high backsplash can be used to screen the rest of the room from dirty dishes.

At Increation Interiors we are expert interior designers based in London and can help you to design your new kitchen.

Kitchen Space For Interior Design
July 2009
_

If extending your kitchen is out of the question you may be wondering how you will get all the design features that you covet. With the expertise of kitchen designers you can make the most of the space available and create a stunning workspace.

Tall storage

If you can incorporate a tall cabinet in a corner of the kitchen, you can house household equipment such as the vacuum cleaner and ironing board. This is an essential storage requirement so if the kitchen is just simply too tiny to accommodate it, try to find somewhere else for it.

Multi-tasking equipment

Gadgets can make a kitchen look cluttered and cramped so if you don’t use them every day, remove it from the counter. Luxury kitchens can be given that extra touch of class by an old fashioned hob kettle or an authentic Italian coffee maker which can be tidied away when not used. Everything else needs to multi-task so buy an oven with a microwave and an all-singing-and-dancing food processor.

Utilise other room space

Take away all the crockery and kitchen utensils that aren’t used daily and keep them in a large but elegant armoire - or dresser in the dining room. You can really make it a focal point by choosing beautiful vintage pieces or alternatively an ultra contemporary style.

Stylish white goods

If your white goods are going to be on show you need to opt for beautiful variations. You can make a strong style statement by choosing a retro style fridge in pink, for example.

At Increation Interiors we are experts in creating bespoke kitchens that reflect your style and personality.
